Monday – I have given up trying to figure out the date.

Tammy and Jake left early – they were heading home. Pete and I, riding together for only the second time this trip, rode to Front Royal – the start of the Skyline Drive.

After paying our toll we were told “very foggy up there”. Great – we started up the road and could not see 20 feet in front of the bikes. There was some crazy person peddling up the hill who nearly got punted 20 feet into the air by two Gold Wings. I am sure the view was nice but you could not see a thing, until…

…when we crossed 2,500 feet the sun came out and the road was clear. That is how the ride was for the next 100 miles. If we were above 2,500 feet, sunny sky’s, below that and we had very dense fog.

The skyline connects with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Although slow going, speed limit is 45 miles per hour, it was great with any number of deer on the side of the road. As I was riding along listening to CNN and thinking about nothing in particular a bear, yes a bear, ran in front of the bike about 200 yards in front. Immediately Pete’s voice came over the radio with some un-publishable comments and we raced to the point the bear ran into the woods. Now, we are not known for being the smartest 2 people on motorcycles but it must have been a sight to see us both pulled to the side of the road looking for the bear. Stupid comes to mind. If the bear had decided to come see us it could have become very interesting.

After buying some food we camped in Natural Bridge, VA.

The plan is to be home for dinner.
