Crossville TN.

643 Miles today

Just east of Kansas City to just west of Knoxville TN.

Not a lot to post today as it was a mile-make-up-day.  We did laugh as we went through St. Louis as there is a point in the highway where you have to pick a lane very quickly.  Some might remember doing it at night and my "Cathy, go left or go right, but you need to pick one" comment.  The highway splits and if you continue straight you are going to end up in a wall.

We are 304 miles from home.

Dinner - Clean out the fridge

This is a wonderful coach. The tri-axle and 450 hp diesel engine just power you down the road.

Funny moment. At one point in Kentucky Cathy was powering up a hill and said " Just checking but we only have 6 wheels right?" "Only 6 wheels or less are allowed in this lane"

"Cathy, we have 8 wheels, 3 axles"

"Really?"

"Yes - 2,4,2"

"Oh"

We are planning our next trip. If it was not for this thing called work, we could go on the road full time and really enjoy this beautiful country.

Yes, Baloo has the right plate!

You can see the arch in St. Louis (Click on the image)

Not sure this is a good picture but it was a line of RV's. Baloo is on the left at the end of the line.

Oak Grove - Just east of Kansas City

564.7 miles
moving average 68.9 MPH
Max Speed 83.9 (Cathy)

....someone has figured out how to use the on-board computer.....

We are 948 Miles from home.

Cathy and I are getting good at this stuff.

So in Bozeman they have hard water. Not exactly sure what that is but it started causing problems with the tank readings and stains in the dishwasher.  I researched solutions and came up with a $400 filter system.

Cathy went to Walmart and bought a gallon of vinegar - $2.48.

We poured the gallon of vinegar into the holding tanks and drove down the road. By the time we got to the KOA tonight all was fixed.

Funny story - we left the campsite this morning and had to make a stop at Walmart. Water, tea, ice cream, nuts, AND YOU CAN BUY RED WINE IN WALMART!  Three bottles of Josh made it into the cart.  The funny thing is as we pulled out of the campsite, we followed a train of other RV's to the same Walmart. We pulled up in a line, laughed at each other and went about our shopping.

We are on our 4th audio book.

Mom cannot find Kansas City on the map - Mom, they moved it from Kansas to Missouri.

Pete and I have started a thought of the day text... interesting to read what we come up with.

Some pictures from the last 24 hours

The sun going down in Nebraska

  Same pic but without Baloo

Yes, Cathy is on this trip with me!  First picture of her on the trip.  I was outside looking in.

Every morning should start with buying wine at Walmart!

Dry camping - well almost

We stayed in Spearfish SD last night. Same place as our trip west. It is a great find and a place we would like to spend more time in.  Cathy is already planning a holiday in the area.  Deadwood SD looks like a fun place to visit - but maybe not in a 45ft RV. Parking can be difficult.

I drove to Mt Rushmore on some great roads.  Last time I was at Mt Rushmore I was on the BMW with Pete.

Nice to have a big windshield to look at the open road - somewhere in the black hills, SD

Yep - Mt. Rushmore.

Pete - two wheels is a lot easier to maneuver at the top of the park. In fairness they do have bus parking and for $10, I claimed I was a bus.

Cathy's reaction?  "its smaller than you imagine"

After a visit to the gift shop we dropped south to see Crazy Horse. Time to give that one a miss. I don't think they have done anything in 10 years and after Mt. Rushmore it is not even worth the drive by.

South across Nebraska - corn, corn and more corn.  113 degrees.

You never know what you are going to find on the road.  Cabelas Headquarters is in Sidney, NE. Cabelas is a hunting and fishing store with locations all over the US. There is one in Charlotte.  Just across from the headquarters, and next to one of their stores is a first come, first served camping facility. For $25 we get 50 amp electric and a clean, well kept facility.  If we had been earlier we could have a full hook up site, but when you can carry 150 gallons of water and have large holding tanks why pay $35 for a full hook up?  Just joking, all the full hook ups where taken.

On the way out we can drain everything and turn on to the highway.  Tomorrow we will need to make up some miles.  1,500 miles from home.

When we arrived there was maybe 10 sites left.  As I finish this post, all sites are taken.

Have a good night everyone.
