Dry camping - well almost

We stayed in Spearfish SD last night. Same place as our trip west. It is a great find and a place we would like to spend more time in.  Cathy is already planning a holiday in the area.  Deadwood SD looks like a fun place to visit - but maybe not in a 45ft RV. Parking can be difficult.

I drove to Mt Rushmore on some great roads.  Last time I was at Mt Rushmore I was on the BMW with Pete.

Nice to have a big windshield to look at the open road - somewhere in the black hills, SD

Yep - Mt. Rushmore.

Pete - two wheels is a lot easier to maneuver at the top of the park. In fairness they do have bus parking and for $10, I claimed I was a bus.

Cathy's reaction?  "its smaller than you imagine"

After a visit to the gift shop we dropped south to see Crazy Horse. Time to give that one a miss. I don't think they have done anything in 10 years and after Mt. Rushmore it is not even worth the drive by.

South across Nebraska - corn, corn and more corn.  113 degrees.

You never know what you are going to find on the road.  Cabelas Headquarters is in Sidney, NE. Cabelas is a hunting and fishing store with locations all over the US. There is one in Charlotte.  Just across from the headquarters, and next to one of their stores is a first come, first served camping facility. For $25 we get 50 amp electric and a clean, well kept facility.  If we had been earlier we could have a full hook up site, but when you can carry 150 gallons of water and have large holding tanks why pay $35 for a full hook up?  Just joking, all the full hook ups where taken.

On the way out we can drain everything and turn on to the highway.  Tomorrow we will need to make up some miles.  1,500 miles from home.

When we arrived there was maybe 10 sites left.  As I finish this post, all sites are taken.

Have a good night everyone.
