As we did not want to take Baloo into Yellowstone - too long and all the campsites max out at 40 feet, I drove Christy's car and the girls drove Baloo. Christy's dog sitter cancelled at the last moment so I stopped at a grocery store for some dog food while Sawyer took the all important middle seat on Baloo. We miss you Ilsa.
I arrived in West Yellowstone and found the girls. We set up camp and then headed off to Roosevelt Lodge for dinner. Cathy's co-worker is on vacation with her family in Yellowstone and had arranged a Cowboy Dinner in Yellowstone. Not knowing much about what to expect I tagged along.
First great thing about Yellowstone - no cell service. I was finally off the grid!
What a dinner!
Started off with a 30 minute wagon ride where we were regaled by a cowboy from North Carolina State university on how the west came about and all things Yellowstone. Dinner was advertised as 'cowboy coffee and steak'. I have to admit I was expecting 'rubber chicken' dinner but the view was impressive and I could enjoy the ride.
The cowboys had set up a BBQ in the middle of a prairie and dinner included muffin, potato salad, Cole slaw, corn, peach cobbler and what can only be described as a hunk of meat. I even asked for it rear and was rewarded with a smile from the cowboy and one of the best steaks I have had.
The cowboy coffee is billed as legendary and I have to say it was very good - like a french cup of coffee - strong.
A couple of hours later our wagon was leaving so 'all aboard' You have to admire the cowboys who drive the chuck wagon with 300 lbs of meat each day into the middle of nowhere, while watching for bears. And just for the record, we did see a bear on the edge of the clearing but it soon decided that I had taken the last rear steak and was not going to share.
Cathy drove us back to Baloo where Sawyer was sound asleep.
It is Saturday - a beautiful morning in the middle of nowhere. Girls are fast asleep inside - Sawyer went back to bed after a morning walk, and I have a cup of coffee and about to call Liz. Today is her first full day as a resident of North Carolina.

We stopped at one of the many Yellowstone Geysers
Our camp site for a couple of days. In the shade but with a clear view of the sky - Dish antenna works great.
It was fun coming back to Yellowstone. If anyone reads these blog posts back to 2006 you will find pictures and stories of when Pete and I rode our bikes around the US and stopped in Yellowstone. One day I will have to publish this story.
