Sunday morning and we were still under a heat watch. Time to
head north.
Cathy took the first leg. Readers will be able to tell who
is driving, as I tend to post updates to the blog as I sit in the co-pilots
seat. I think I drive Cathy a little nuts with all the gadgets I have but she
did turn me on to Waze - a very cool app using crowdsaucing to determine who
and what lies on the roads ahead. You can then verify the information as you
pass the obstruction etc.
I took the drive around New York. Man, just not fun. The
biggest issue I had was trusting that the bridge builders on the Garden State
Parkway got it right when they measured the clearance on the bridges at 13 feet
4 inches. When you need 12 feet 10 inches to clear the top of the RV and you
are approaching the bridge at 70 miles an hour you tend to hold your breath and
wait for any sounds that resemble satellite dishes flying off the roof.
In August 19, 2007 I was riding back from Prince Edward
Island and stayed at Prospect Lake Camp Ground. I remember it as a very
relaxing place in the Berkshires. I have a picture of my campsite in my office.
I remember drinking a cup of coffee by the lake thinking I need to get on the
bike quickly otherwise, I will just stay. Well, fast-forward to August 14, 2016
and we pulled into the same campgrounds. Not the same spot (my camping gear is
a little bigger now) but the same people at the desk. Cathy got ‘you go girl’ shouts from two
ladies as she was driving when we pulled in and obviously seeing a female
behind the wheel was a novelty. While I was paying the exorbitant cost of $40
per night, a man approached the RV to question if Cathy was really driving it.
Lazy day today. Tomorrow we head to Kennebunkport, Maine
where the camp site brings lobster to your door…guess what is for dinner.
