So, what do you do when your stress has stress?
I go for dinner and a ride. Ok, some people are going to think I have completely lost it but the planets where colliding with end of month and end of quarter. We were behind and the ‘make up’ accounts where not showing much movement.
It was time to clear my head, but where to go?
Well Cathy and Christy are in Fort Lauderdale, FL celebrating her fathers 73rd birthday…
Time to go!
I left Charlotte about 5:30 and rode to the South Carolina / Georgia boarder before calling it a day. I was already starting to fell better. I called Cathy and told her I was 490 miles away and I would be there for dinner. ‘WOW, BBQ tomorrow night”.
I left the hotel at 7:00 AM after having breakfast with a couple heading north – yes, the ride alone theory continues. I headed south for mile after mile. By 3:00 PM I had a cold beer in my hand with the Colvert family. My brother-in-law (a Harley rider) just looked at me with this unbelievable look. All sorts of comments about Cathy’s choice in husbands were made, but it was a wonderful dinner.
4:30 AM Sunday I was on the road again. The Wing has a feature on the GPS called ‘Go Home’. Go Home told me I had 730 miles to my front door. I rode in the dark for a couple of hours and was treated to an incredible sunrise. The sun was coming up over the water but it was still pitch black in the Everglades. Heading north, with very few people on the road I could feel the stress pouring off, a smile started to appear.
By 10:00 I was in Georgia and laughing; just as Cathy and Christy would have been boarding their return flight. I kept looking up at the sky looking for their plane. It was a beautiful day and I listened to all the pre-game football shows as I clocked mile after mile.
At 3:30 I pulled into the drive way completely refreshed and ready to do battle again.
A lot of people will think I am crazy and I am not sure I can explain. For 2 days I turned the computer off and went to have dinner.
Monday all sorts of good things started to happen.
Coincidence?
