White knuckle riding!
After a great meal and a good night sleep I left Williamsburg, VA around 7 AM. I had coffee on board so I rode the first 100 miles before I stopped for a quick coffee and breakfast bar. I was trying to catch Pete who was approximately a day ahead of me.
I rode up I-95 through Washington, Baltimore and then crossed into New Jersey. Does anyone know why they call it the garden state? They should call it the Toll Booth State. For the non-riders reading this blog, toll booths are very dangerous for bikes. Imagine putting your foot in a patch of oil, scrambling for change and then accelerating with your wheels on oil. Then try doing it about 10 times! When the toll booth guy told me “this is the last one” I jumped with joy, spun my back tire and drove like some one was chasing me.
I was determined not to stop until I was north of New York. I had calculated that as it was a Sunday there would be little traffic and I would make good time. Do you know what New Yorkers do on Sunday? Take their cars out! At one time I was on a 5 lane highway going 10 miles an hour. Unbelievable.
I finally made it on to I-87 and remembered the last time I was on this road I was with Nick heading to an appointment in Albany. After 530 miles I was hot and ready to call it a day.
Tonight I am in Woodstock. Tent up, shower and then the best Gin and Tonic you can find within 100 miles. Dinner was Chili Mac and Meat, well Meat may be an exaggeration.
All in all a good days ride. I am about 300 miles behind Pete but should easily make it up tomorrow. The picture is of Camp Harrison, Woodstock, New York.
Have a great Monday.

we have the map open on the dining room table and we can spot where you are. Assumed that the toll booth did not have french type barriers! Mom
