Beware the Dam!

I rode to Morrow Mountain State Park - in the Uwharrie National Forest. Part of my plan was to find some hiking trails that Christy and I could walk in preparation for her trip to Philmont. Well, after a brief 42 mile ride I was in deep conversation with the ranger. All looked good with over 30 miles of trails. I decided to give one a try. Fall Mountain Trail here I come.

I was having a great time (although breathing hard) and could hear a distant roar. Turns out the dam was releasing water as you can see from the picture. Looks wonderful until you realize the water where you are is rising! It was 1.5 miles back to the bike and I think I did it in double time. On three occasions the path was under water and called for some quick detours. I was glad to see the bike.

I programmed the GPS for an 80 mile return trip and let the 'big girl hunt' on the way home. I had forgotten how nice the country roads can be and once again, 'she' performed beyond expectations.

About 127 miles for the day.
