Day 1 – Charlotte to Little Rock – 815 miles

The day started early with Cathy and Christy pouring an espresso while I packed the last few items. A couple of pictures and I was off. Quick stop for gas and I was off to meet Pete.

As Pete approach I could tell there was something wrong. His PIAA lights (spot lights) were not on. Turns out he had blown a fuse, so at 5:00 AM this morning we were on our hands and knees trying to figure out what fuse had gone out. We fixed it and headed for I-85. About 5 minutes on I-85 and the fuse blew again. It is the park light fuse and we have no idea what is happening – Geoff – if you are readying this blog maybe you can post a few pointers. Anyway, we kept riding and past Asheville around 6:30 AM. After a quick cup of coffee we continued on I-40.

After the coffee I struggled for a few miles before we pulled over, filled the bikes with gas, drank a Red Bull (thanks Pete) and changed into wet weather gear. Unfortunately as soon as we had finished changing it stopped raining! It was steamy. Outside Nashville we hit rain again and then again outside Memphis. We had to stop in Memphis as lightning and high winds were pushing the bikes all over the place. Once we got back on the road we crossed over the Mississippi river and into Arkansas and headed for Little Rock.

In Little Rock we had a little problem finding a hotel with wireless Internet. We needed to have wireless as I have a Board meeting tomorrow. To cut a long story short (or 1 hour of driving around Little Rock) we found the DoubleTree Hotel.

Dinner was a burger and a glass of wine, a walk back to the hotel, and a few sights along the way.

Enjoyed your write up and hope you have better weather today though it does look like it's going to be WARM. 815 miles and they turned you down for the 2007 Iron Butt! Carry on like this and you'll have your very own IB. AJH
