So, first to everyone who followed across the US - I apologize for the sudden stop in postings. We are fine and I just got behind.
We arrived around 3:30 at Sunrise Campground in Bozeman. Great little find just 5 minutes from old town Bozeman. The campground is open from April 1 to October 31 and everything they do is on paper. There is not a computer insight. The owners are great people and ready to help with anything.
As Cathy was parking the RV and I was chatting with the owner a grey Volvo arrived and Christy jumped out. Happy Birthday!
The ribs were great, the wine was red and the evening ended with Christy and her dog fast asleep in the RV. It was a fun evening.
Monday.
Slow morning as we did not have miles to make. We took Sawyer to the dog park, dropped him off at Christy's apartment then had a late lunch at the new burger joint in Bozeman. Time for a nap.
Tuesday.
Tuesday was my day for the car. I picked up Christy's car and took it to Auto Works. There is no Volvo dealer in Bozeman but Auto Works received great reviews online and when I arrived I could see why. I could have had breakfast on the floor in the garage. This is the place for foreign cars in Bozeman and the work area was full of Volvos, Porsches, Ferraris and even a Lamborghini. I received a very warm welcome and they went about the oil change and complete check. Yes, still doing the Dad thing and making sure all systems are working.
There just happened to be a self car wash across the street so that was my next stop. Everyone should take comfort in the fact that if Christy got caught in a snow storm she could have survived for days with the 'stuff' in her car. Keep in mind I am a 'one phone charger' only type of car owner so having days worth of what I have come to learn is survival gear in a car is, let's say, different.
Off to the Department of Motor Vehicles. The North Carolina tag had expired and I wanted to put Montana plates on it. As I waited for #47 to be called I worked away. Not sure anyone in Bozeman had seen a guy with a funny accent, walking around the DMV with a phone stuck to his ear trying to close that last deal of the quarter.
Just as I was finishing the legal stuff Christy arrived and we got a recommendation for The Meet Shoppe. We picked up some Bison steaks and bacon Dad would have loved. Each slice is at least 10 inches long and must be an 1.4 inch think.
The Bison steaks were great on the grill - yes we will be bring some back to Charlotte. Last year we transported Lobster form Maine, so it is only right that we return from Montana with Bison.
Wednesday
Cathy slept in and I worked. I have some projects that are accelerating so they need some attention.
An RV is much like a boat. There is always something that needs attention and I had a couple of trips to Home Depot for some items - nothing serious just routine fix it.
We picked up Christy around 5 and Christy and I went on a hike. When you are at the trail head and see it is only 1.2 miles to the summit, you laugh. I walk that every morning with Ilsa back in Charlotte. What they did not say is you are over a mile high (thin air) and the summit is all up hill.
I made it. There were times I had to stop and admire the view (at least that was what i told Christy) and it was well worth it. Not sure if the pictures will do it justice but once at the top you have a spectacular view of Bozeman.
We ended the evening with a great dinner at Open Range with a bottle of South African wine.
Some pictures will follow when I have a better connection.
